View Full Version : average corn weight
I have a corn snake that my father jsut bought and I know(or think) it is too fat but I'm not sure if it is just a little bit overweight or a lot. It is about 5' female and is 1230g as of today and hasn't had anything to eat in 2 weeks. Also if I feec it every 10-14 day would that help it lose some weight.
Thanks foir the help

Well, we'd be comparing apples to oranges, as mine is a male and a foot shorter than your female, but mine weighs in at 512 grams.
A picture would be a big help...

I have a 3 ft female that used to weigh in around 300g, and she was a bit overweight...
I'll try to get a pic up soon if i can get my hands on a digi camera. I wasn't sure if the sizes varied that much.

Burmies!!! JEEZ!!!
Sounds a bit overweight. I would guess, and only guess, a healthy weight for a female around that size would be around 650 grams, that may even be on the plump side. But, if you can't see much skin between the scales or no fat rolls along the side, it may just be a born giant. Pics would be needed to distinguish whether it is a healthy weight or not. Honestly from the way it sounds, it must be as fat as a ball python! J/K
Feeding it every 10-14 days would DEFINITELY help it lose some weight. I reccomend one feeding for every 2 weeks. It won't be intantanious but it will drop off.

Agreed, I cut my female down to 2 week feedings and the change from her original size is quite dramatic (she used to be round like a sausage, now she's flattened out on the sides and slimmed up considerably), but it took a few months (I started cutting back in the fall, if I recall correctly)...I weighed her this evening to see if she had lost weight but, surprisingly, she's at 350g right now but not nearly as fat any more.

if it feels like jelly in a sock......its fat!:) we have a really fat corn at work and its disqusting! it has lil fat rolls and everything....(its a rescue centre so its not our fault! dont slap me!) i think at its heaviest it was 1600g! its a beast!
chicks are lower in fat arent they? maybe you could try a "slimmers" diet of chicken. <-----may not be right!!
plus its alot cheaper!

Chicks (day old), rats and mice are all pretty much within 1-2% in terms of fat content, but chicks generally have a slightly higher protein content. But with day old chicks, you're going to end up short on useable calcium...but them I don't know how big a concern that is for an adult animal.
The big problem with chicks is very runny stools produced by the snake, and they're very stinky!
Like humans, I think a reduction in caloric intake coupled with increased activity (handling, climbing etc) would be a good plan to reduce weight.

My 4.5' female weighed 567g when she came out of brumation. She has a belly full of eggs and still she only weighs 700g. I also have a 5' black mexican king he is under weight due to his winter fast but he only weighs about 700g. I'd say she is over weight but a picture would be nice. She must be huge!
Cheers,
Trevor
I know she is fat since i can see the skin betwen her scales. I'm going to try to feed her fridy since she hasn't eaten in at least 2 weeks. I'm hopin to get my hand on a digi cam this weekend. Also she is as round as my 3-3.5' ball.
Holy jesus!!! That's huge!! Yeah, feeding once every two weeks will help it a lot.
I'll be putting some pics of the corn tomorrow morning in my gallery.
Nice corn. Definitely obese but not as monstrous as I thought, i'll admit. :)
