Hey, I was wondering where exactly the BEST possible place to find ringnecks are. I have 4 acres of THICK woods in my back yard and I cannot find one! I flipped over every log, rock and board in my back woods and NOTHING. I also went out at night and couldn't find a single thing. All the places I've looked are nice and moist (I heard that's what they like) and have loose soil under them. Does anyone have any suggestions on where I could locate one easily?

Thanks

All I can say is perseverance, herping can be trying on one's patience, espically when looking for a particular species.

They like more than just moist, usually damp environments are better, almost sloppy, gooey footing is a starting point. I've found them in driveways in the mountains of NC (northern ringnecks in that case). Your yard is usually a prime spot, b/c of the concentration of bugs and worms. If you can find salamander habitat, you'll most likely find ringnecks...

Thanks for the help. I will look again tonight in places that you suggested. I hope I can find one!

Great Jeff! Now show us the indigos. I'm dying to see 'em! You'll probably see ring necks every day now that you've found one.

I will search for some indigos tomorrow. I dunno how I'm gonna get some pics if I can't wrangle them... It will be hard, but I'll try.
