Hello people,

im really busy finishing my bearded dragon enclosure. Turned out pretty nice. The question is this: i made this basking branch,

http://www.xs4all.nl/~schouwe/basking_branch.jpg

I connected the lose branches with pieces of rope and i was wondering if i could leave it like that. The long pieces of left over rope will be cut short offcourse. I thought it looked rather cewl, since there is the fossile and then this man made branch looked nice in the whole picture. I think will re-rope it again and use a little less rope then.
Do you think this can work, or should i find another way to connect the branches? Or that its bad bad the bearded dragons?
Thanks for any comments,
greetz Daan

The rope should be fine as long as you don't let your beardie choke on it! I agree, the hanging rope does look cool but it cancause the death of one of your beardies :(

Oh no, i didnt mean that the lose pieces of rope looked nice, i meant the whole thing, without the pieces of rope. But thnx for the comment. :D

Claws or even whole toes might get caught in the rope. I'd use some silicone sealant instead.

Also, it looks like the beardies would be able to come in contact with the basking bulb fixtures and get burned, so you might need to put wire cages around them.

The enclosure looks awesome by the way. I'm glad my beardies are all asleep for the night so they don't get jealous.

Hmmm, yeah i was affraid that that could happen. But i wasnt sure, thats why i asked :) . I will figure something out.
And the closest they can get to a spot is 18 cm, which is *calculating* 7 inches. Is that to close? I can make the space between the fixture and the basking spot bigger. How far away should it be? Thanks again

Lizards are funny creatures. They can get in places you wouldn't expect. Since a beardie is bigger than 7 inches, they can definitely find a way to reach the lamps. I'd rather see you make the basking spot farther away than put wire cages around the lamps. Wire cages would make it easier for a beardie to grab on and possibly get stuck and overheat. Good luck. Looks great so far!

Well, i could go and type a very long story about how i did it. But its much easier to just go and check this site: http://hem.bredband.net/ridgun/teo/svenska/terrariebygge/frame-terrariet.html

Its in swedish or something, but there are lots of pics there to explain how to make the background. And pics say more then a thousand words.
Good luck with your enclosure :D

as for the roop thing I use zip ties on my cages and then hot glue some moss around the ties it looks natural and all you need to do is replace the moss every now and then.

the zip tie idea is good because they are easily cut and removed if need be and easily covered, but another thing you could do is drill pilot holes through the branches and use long lag bolts with nuts as they too are removable and are usually galvanized so they won't rust. You can do the hot gluegum thing and add some moss to cover the screws for esthetics.
The cage looks great none the less, and you should be proud of your work. Congrats.
