Just jpicked these two gems up in AL. In GA, you actually have to have a permit to keep these guys.
The female, she is from SC

And the Male is from North FL

He seems to like Herm

Both are almost 17" which is good sized for a Scarlet king. And the female took a pink the night I grought her home. :D
I like the male a lot! The female looks to be thicker than the male, is she?
Wow I would love to own a pair of those. Or even one! Such an amazingly tiny snake IMHO! I can't believe they rarely get over two feet...wow even people living in London, ON can have them (hey Simon? haha)
You must be happy with those two! The male is amazing! His pattern looks like my Pueblan Milksnake! Although when you see his head shape its clear he is a king....very nice!
What size eggs do they lay? I read usually only 3-6? Do you know how big the hatchlings are? Are yougoing to be breeding them eventually or are they just for pleasure?

They are both about 17", but the female is MUCH more massive.
I may try my hand at breeding them. But mainly they are for Educational Programs as a Coral Snake Mimic.
Theya re very secretive and usually hang out under bark, so I am not anticipating seeing them too much ;)
Special thanks to CrimsonKing for the great care sheet he sent me.
Sounds like a good plan, but make sure to tell people these mimmics are only valid in the Western Hemisphere because a lot of coral's around the Amazon and such can be quite decieving :).

The programs they are used for are restricted to Native Georgia snakes.
Nice looking scarlets! Love the male! Were they WC? I'm surprised that one of them took a pink for you. Was it scented?

as per your advice, I have a moist deli with ahole that I keep like a laying box, very damp. They have been hanging out in there quite a bit.

Just check 'em to be sure it's not too moist. Sometimes it's a "thin line" between moist and dry. I give mine a little of both, but they are often in the sphagnum especially after a meal and when shedding. They'll cruise around in the eves.I am hoping my 24" female will be nice and breed for me this year too.

It is just one part of the habitat. It is a 10 gallon. severl hide spots. One I spray daily to keep it damp. A couple dry ones. A large shallow water bowl. And the moss cup that stays really humid.

Sounds like a good home to me. I just got a male a few weeks ago and he too ate a pink right off. I have a male (for 6 yrs.now) that still will only occasionally take a scented pink, preferring anoles much more. My big girl will take a rat pink if I give it to her. Ever get an e. coral?

Got an Eastern Coral waiting for me. 4 month captive that was captured int he ladies room at a state park. Just have to drive down to get it. Giving them the third scarlet, a male, for it. Needless to say, herping this year will include catching alot of lizards (which i usually dont do unless I am fishing for bass ;) )

Bad pic through the terrarium glass so I didn't disturb 'em. You get the idea.

Never known a scarlet king to refuse a skink! Now you have something to scent him over with too. Great! They should do good for you.

For the first one, I scented the pink with a thawed skink. He refused, so I offered him the skink and he took it. The second male took the pink. The female, refused a pink. So I thawed a pink, thawed an Anole, and rubbed the pink in the anole's mouth. She snarfed it up. I am stoked.
