I am interested in getting into Rosy or Kenyan Sand Boas. I understand that they produce an average of five offspring at a time. My question is: How many times will a female reproduce in a year? Moreover, how many times is it safe for a female to reproduce in a year?
Thanks for any info!
Scott
Keep in mind kenyans are boas, they are live bearers, they have long gestation periods. I think you are looking at once a year reproduction. You can't double clutch them like egg layers.

hey Katt,
what type of fish is that? (your avatar)
I don't know much about breeding kenyans, so I can't give you any input there. Rosies however have a gestation of 120-140 days on average, you must also take into consideration the brumation period (3 months is recommended), and the breeding time, and preparation for all of the above ;) Once you add in a period of rest your years over :p

The above posts are accurate, but Kenyans produce more offspring than Rosies. I have 23 babies out of 16 year old female in 02. She also had several slugs, so probably 30 is actually possible , but extreme. A dozen is typical.
I've been breeding rosies since 1986 and never have had a litter bigger than 5. 3 or 4 is normal.
As indicated by the others, then never double clutch! One litter a year, is it, and they'll skip years if they don't have enough weight.

They only breed once a year.
