When combatting males, it's quality, not quantity. If you leave 2 males together for a week but they don't even look at each other, then you won't get very far. But if they are combatting well, then 5 minutes to half an hour is enough. You should combat early evening, and then put him in with the female right away. He may or may not show immediate interest. If he doesn't show interest right away, leave him with her for a week or so. You'll probably wake up one morning to see them going at it. Try not to bug them too much.

All I can say it is easier to just look up on line for a caresheet.

Burmies - it isn't easy to find that precise information online... I wasn't able to, I had to ask how to combat for. Mind you, I never ended up combatting, but it was good to know.

But yeah, there is a lot of breeding info at my site at http://www.moreliaspilota.com

With my personal experience..

I have tried last year to have combating males with my coastal carpets.. and it ended up that both the male bred with the female.. She never ovulated and never produced...

This year I have only one male .. none combated .. and as soon as I introduced them, they bred .. ovulated and produces.. My pair of jungles as well bred without male combating but I was a bit too late for the breeding so I am possitive she did not ovulate..

Basically .. wether u combat them or not .. they will breed if conditions are right .. the question is, is she gonna ovulate.. hence the reason why u need to properly cycle the female .. don't get me wrong some may ovulate if not properly cycled but ure chances are considerably lower..

That isn't necessarily true... I know of several hard-case male carpets that weren't interested in breeding until they were combatted. It sparked their interest in the female, and enticed them to breed her.

Also, cycling isn't a must. I'd say a good 40% of breeders don't even cool. While it certainly helps, I don't think your chances are considerably lower if you don't cycle. A normal dip in temperatures should prove enough, provided the female is healthy and mature when she is bred.

Again as I said .. It was my experiences.. I did not need to combat.. and they bred .. I also combated and they bred also ..

I was not saying that they will always breed.. of course there may be a case were u need several males.. Hence the ..

With my personal experience.....

As I said also cycling Is not a must but ure chances are lower.. a dip of temps would be somwhat some cycling.. a bit ayway ... implying it helps and ehences your chances..

Its funny how u always need to wriet that this is what u observed or else everyone tries to prove u wrong.. These are simply my oppinions.. take it or leave it.. that is what I observed..

No one is trying to prove you wrong, your experience is your experience, obviously you aren't imaging your pythons breeding.

Basically .. wether u combat them or not .. they will breed

I was just saying that combatting can help some males in breeding. It isn't a sure thing that if you combat your male will mate the female, nor is it a sure thing that if you don't combat your male won't mate the female.

Great to hear dean!!
Have they bed before? If she's never been with a male then she doesn't have eggs already. She probably wouldn't breed if she already had eggs anyway.
But copulation is a great sign, gl with her!

Best of luck with her..

and Zoe, the quote fully said...

Wether u combat them or not, they will breed IF CONDITIONS are right.. that was a Huge IF...

Anywho .. its not important!

Combat can have a negative effect as well on a male. IF a male loses to another male he can be turned off breeding, and size does not always matter. I like to keep it short and sweet, not letting either male get the upper hand.

I much rather use recent sheds than to introduce two males together. Yes, combatting has been used on stuborn males (not by myself), but it is not normally necessary. As far as cooling goes, I have always done a two month cooling to about 70-75 degrees with good results. I have never personally tried not cooling or simple season room temp cycling.

I did not cool this year but used reduced light instead to see what would happen. My males were more aggressive to breed this year over past years???

I used both reduced light and cooling and my male was interested ..

Yeah, I turned off the heat at night and put the pads on the low level during the day. As for the light, it goes on and off as the fun comes up and goes down. Worked perfectly :D
