After waiting almost 4 years, my pair of calikings are breeding! The female's a '99 aberrent albino and the male's a small '99 "coastal" phase. Thought of breeding the female, "Pearl" last year but decided to wait another, and my is she big now. The male was tried with a 50/50 female but he wasn't aggressive enough and kept getting thrown off. Not now though.

This wasn't a planned breeding as I had an albino male (who was obtained too late to brumate) and a coastal female for them. The albino male, since he wasn't cooled, was too aggressive with Peal and couldn't decide if he wanted to eat her or breed her. He had bitten her neck several times. Hence those awful looking marks on her neck. Thinking that was just how calikings get, I left it, until I saw him in a death coil around her! Panic! Good thing I never left them alone for long, but my poor baby's got those nasty bites on her neck. She'll shed them out though.

Anyways, I just feel like a proud parent now. Now that my kids are sexually mature! ;) lol

BTW, I know the male, "Tex" isn't the best looking coastal cos he's brown, but not brown enough. Anyone know of someone with lighter brown coloured calikings with thin yellow bands?

Is the male het/albino? It would be nice to have a surprise or two or three...or...

Congrats on the breeding - very nice couple. Not sure what you mean that the male is not brown enough - is it that he is too dark - and closer to black? or that he is not dark enough? From your post it sounds like you are looking for a lighter brown, but I was never aware that there were distinctions among breeders of coastal Cal Kings - so more info would be great.

Pearl is definately a big one - love the abberant markings and she will shed out the bites in no time.

Pearl looks like she might be an albino dot-dash, does she have any side markings? She's a real beauty :D good luck on the upcoming clutch!!!

Pearl is more of a striped which is broken in many places. She's got clean sides and a plain yellow belly.

Mark, Tex was from a breeder who got him from someone else. The breeder didn't want him as he was too aggressive for him. To me he's your typical king. Musky at tiimes but can be a darling. No history on genetics, so here's hoping.

Mary, I meant that his brown isn't light enough. I like the really light brown and yellow ones. I'm hoping to selectively breed towards that. He could pass for a coastal but then again without locality info, who knows. True coastals can look pretty ugly to most, but I love em!

Thanks all for the compliments on my babies. I'll remember to let them know how wonderful they are before putting them to bed. Hehe.

Very nice, how much damage was done in the process?

Not much Burmies, just the top epidermal layer. She should shed it off in one shed, by the looks of it.
