View Full Version : time to step it up to two adult mice?
my corn snake nicky is one year old and eats one adult mouse every 7 days i was wondering when should i move her up to 2 adult mice? theres not really a big bump anymore when she eats the mouse but i'm scared that she might choke on to adult mice beause when he was younger he nearly chocked on two pinky mice and ever since i've been scared about increasing his food because my snkae is everything to me and i don't want anything bad to haooen to her any advice
maybe i just worry to much i dunno?
Well, I have never heard of a snake that chokes on it's food item to death unless it is covered in aspen shavings or something like that. The reason is, most snakes will spit out what they can't eat, it's basic instinct. My cali. king had difficulty once but she spit it back out and went for it again, just as most snakes do. If you are worried that your snake will choke, lubricate the mouse with water, it should go down just fine.
I feel if your corn snake will eat two when they are offered, give them to her, especially if there is no feeding bump after only 1.

you shoudn't step up to two adult mice, feed one appropriately sized food item at each feeding, which should be once a week. I would hzve to see a pic of your snake to be able to tell what size of a food item. But i know my 8 month old corn took fuzzys when i had him, so depending on your corn you could maybe feed a fuzzy rat, or something alittle bigger than an adult mouse.

Go ahead, if it does not want it, it will just leave it alone.

no, only one prey item. If shes a year she will take a mouse, unless she is stunted. A rock python that was maybe 18' i think, ate an antelope, antlers and all
OMG thats crzy rock pythons are huge guy i heard about this guy that got eaten by one but if hew as stupid enough to bug it then he derseves it

i doubt someone has been eaten by a rock python. And they aren't huge. Average maybe 15'-18'. Whats big about them is there attitude

The wonderful thing about colubrids is that they can take up to 1.5-2 x their girth in prey. You may want to try her out on a weaned or small rat (depending on the rat's size). In other words, a rat that is a little bit bigger than an adult mouse. :) If she doesn't want anything to do with the rat, then yes, 2 mice it is. Their metabolism is much higher than boids, so feeding 2 items once a week is not a problem.
Good luck!
