Why is the name of another site banned?

Hope I don't get in trouble for this. This is a genuine question.

I do not use the king-snake website for the following reasons:

-Their webserver is too slow
-Their layout is pure crap, can't find a thing
-Their forums are micro-managed and way over-moderated

So I'm no fan of the site. However I am aghast as to why the name is blocked from appearing here, and why links to the king-snake site are forced broken?

Hope I'm not stepping on any toes here, I'm genuinely curious as to why the name is forbidden.

kingsnake blocks every other herp related link, probably out of fear of losing business to other sites (they charge for classifieds). it's only fair that every other herp related site blocks kingsnake. none of the other herp related sites are blocked.

I seriously hate KS. They banned me for no reason. I left them and came here. I like it much better here!

I am not a fan of the kingsnake site. There are more canadians here in ssnakess.com. In kingsnake site there are hardly any canadians at all.

I had no idea they blocked other links too. How childish. Thanks for all the replies. Although I am American I associate with herpers around the world and am glad to have found this site. I hope nobody REALLY cares about anyone else's nationality here. :P

I highly doubt that fr0glet...although it does help to find Canadian sites for us Canadians, as its harder to find suppliers/breeders and such here.

But as for nationality, it doesn't matter one bit from my stand point! I think he was just asking because he didn't know.

Kingsnake sucks, I was there for a year then I found this place. I'll never go back. And yes, way more Canadian stuff here. Love this place. We shouldn't need to block other sites because we kick a** here. sSnakeSs rules!!!

I like ssnakess.com a lot but I still do visit the other site for 2 reasons only and those are the Monitor Forum and the Crocodilian Forum. It doesn't really have anything to do with the site but with the people who post on these 2 forums. I have learnt a lot from people like Bill Moss and Dr. Adam Britton on the crocodilian forums and I have learnt alot from the people at Pro Exotics, Frank Retes, and many others on the monitor forum.

Hey marisa, I am only 40 minutes south of the Peace Arch crossing into BC, see I'm practically an honorary Canadian! :D

My friend owns/runs www.herpetoculture.com and a TON of other herp forum sites, but none of them have much traffic. I personally am a big Usenet user, I post heavily on rec.pets.herp and alt.pets.reptiles.snakes and sometimes alt.pets.arachnids

Also I recognize the resource that ks is, sometimes if I am seeking more input on a topic I will just go and search the archives of their forums but I rarely post there. Lots of politics, I hate that crap! I have really received a warm welcome here on ssnakess.com and am so glad I found the IRC channel :D

I live in langley so i am like 10 minutes from hte border a friend of mine lives right on the peace arch border you must live near lynden or bellingham then huh I plan on going to the northwest reptile show in tacoma right? in october since its bigger then the ones we get up here I hope its legal to bring reptiles across in a car

This tread is so funny, a lot of good peoples with tons of knowledge use to go there! Not any more, trust me this site and its peoples have absolutely nothing to envy about that site. Alot of vets still hang at the KS hot forum. I still cruise in ther a couple times a week. And of course i visit reptilehaven.net as much as here if not more. Those 3 are the big traffic sites I visit. But I do spend alot of timeon multiple smaller sites that don't have near the traffic.

For the record to clear everything up, this was Barringers doing and not ours... He has done this to any and every other reptile community on the internet that he feels is a threat to his business, we dont block other communities only his for what he has done to us. If you want more infomation, go to www.boardofinquiry.com and do a search on kingsnake, there are a ton of threads there relating to this problem posted by other communities.

Actually it only takes 10-15 minutes to get to Bellingham from the Peace Arch. I live down in Mt. Vernon.

I plan on going to the northwest reptile show in tacoma right? in october since its bigger then the ones we get up here I hope its legal to bring reptiles across in a car

I have picked up rescue animals in White Rock and Burnaby and successfully brought them into the US at both the Peace Arch and the truck crossing. Don't forget your birth certificate or passport, the US customs dudes are really uptight!!

froglet I dont really go into the states anymore i used to but the dollar is lower so it isnt worht my time when i can get the stuff i want cheaper here Besides reptiles i dont know why i thought tacoma meh what are you gonna do I am not too into frogs or at least yet

I used to spend every weekend in Vancouver BC, my logic was that my dollar was going further but then I figured out that the prices were considerably higher so it was a wash :(

Anyway Puyallup and Tacoma are pretty close together, maybe someone mentioned that to you :)

I am a member of Dog Hobbyist, an affiliate of Pethobbyist which KS is also. They were working on revamping the layout and asked for suggestions. I couldn't remember what the layout of this site was called so I just said see www.ssnakess.com, I like the layout a lot over there. And I got a WARNING!!! I asked the doghobbyist mods what was up and they had no idea that such a thing would occur but it's all because of how KS is run and it affects all their other forums. It's really odd.

why would a fourm block another fourm? KS is a crappy site plain and simple you cant find anything there inless you search for ever. This site is ten times better and as long as it's advrotised it could become bigger than kingsnake. Jeff: you should set up booths at shows like kingsnake does :)

We would love to be able to do that but funding is minimal (for now) but you never know what the future will hold! :D I Would love to take the show on the road and meet some of our american members aswell! :D

Alicewave- Yeah thats how they ensure that you won't even be able to post a photo from a ssnakess.com account over there. They say its because the software they have can't filter out whats a photo, or just a caresheet. But when someone on the forums went into great tech detail explaining how they could easily do it, they ignored him.

It's a convienent method to block everything they don't like out. If you say something they don't like, you get banned.

Hey Jeff, I'd be happy to hand out some flyers about ssnakess.com at a big reptile show happening in the Northwest in a few months. If you guys put together something simple and graphical I would love to share it with other herpers!

Actually fr0glet your idea sounds GREAT! Another forum I visit is also sending out flyers to different people so they can either put them in with their shipments, or bring them to shows.

Although I know printing costs a lot!
