My uromastyx has an eye infect. He keeps it closed almost the whole day. I bought some Terramycin for his eye which will get here on thursday. All I need to know is, how do I put it on? Do I just rub it on over the eye? Or do I try to actually put it on the eye ball?
Thanks for any help!
Hey Jeff!
All eye antibiotics need to applied directly to the eyeball itself for it to work. Terramycin is not a drop but more a gel type medication. You can either manually open the eyelid and put a small amount (1/4" strip) across the eyeball, or use the tip on the end of the tube to insert it between the eyelids. The latter is not suggested as you may force too much and damage the eyeball itself. You do not have to rub the eyelids after applying the meds.
Hope this helps

Alright! I will use the prior suggestion and do it manually. Is this stuff supposed to work real well? I've heard it's very good for clearing up infections.

Try to get another person to help you out, preferrably someone with a steady hand, to gently pry the eyelid open. Once you've accomplished that, like Trace said, apply a small amount of the antibiotic across the eye ball itself. I personally think that the tip of the dropper shouldn't be placed on the eye, or contact any part of the animal, as it can be abrasive as Trace also mentioned, and in case of contamination.
I wish you luck treating this infection.
LATER.
