My adult female IJ who laid eggs on the 10th and shed on the 23rd, is still not interested in food. I offered a thawed rat today and she wasn't at all interested. Anything I can do to boost her appetite? Should I try live, maybe? Or just let her wait until she's ready to eat?

Thanks
Zoe

BTW, chicken broth didn't work on my smaller IJ. GRR

Zoe I have found it's easy to get them to eat if you put them in a different cage/countainer for a couple of days. THat way there is no left over egg smell to distract her. You could try live/fresh killed to get the little one to eat rats.

Has she shed yet...some don't eat until they have a post lay shed.

Have you tried diffrent prey items?? Or try to cut the nose open on the frozen prey item, or you could sent the F/T item in old bedding from live prey..

Yes she shed the 23rd, as I wrote ;)

I've tried a rat, and a broth-scented rat with no luck. She seems very alert tho, climbing all over, putting on an "im tougher than you are" show when I get near. I took some pics of her today, I'll post em later. Anyway all that to say that she's in no immediate danger of starving to death. But still!

I personally would try a small live rat .. and if she takes it.. she should take a frozen thawed rat right after.. Mine ate 5 adults rats in a row last week and 4 in a row yesterday..

U just got to convince her to take the first one and the you should be set.. If the live rat does not work, I'd try the live mouse .. and then maybe a gerbil if all fails..

best of luck

I offered her a live mouse, she wasn't interested. She looked at it for a second, but it was more of a "what the hell? get away" look than an "I'm hungry" look. GRR.

Iwould go with the live food to start.
