i'm new to Boas but i've heard so many neat things abt. them...the thing i keep seeing pictures and they all seem the same...Whats the biggest difference between these 4 species in terms of temperment, colour and feeding?
1) coloumbian
2) peruvian
3) surinam
4)guyanese??

Feeding, same. temperment, minor changes (guyana I'd say is questionable) more aggressive if wildcaught. colour, the best would be to go to a good website and look for pics! Also dumerils is not a redtail, it's from an entire different place.

yeah i knew abt. the dumerils boa...i just wanted to include in cos i was interested in how it compares up to these other redtails. i'm actually looking for a potential boa to buy in the future...but there are so many that i can't decide!!!
i think for me size would be a major factor...i don't want the huge peruvian guys for sure...then next comes temperment and then colour....any suggesstions??

Bcc are known to be a bit more aggressive and are not as forgiving of husbandry mistakes. They have tendencies to regurge if their housing is not perfect. Their color is superior, however, to run-of-the-mill bci. But I feel a bci is a better starter boa than bcc or a Dumerils. Dumerils are hard to get feeding as neonates. They are ambush hunters and sometimes hold out for their favorite food - lizards. If you want a smaller snake, go for a Hogg Island bci. If you are looking for something bigger than bci but without the health and eating issues, get a bc occidentalis. Argentine boas are awesome! With plenty of handling and a good setup they become quite sweet. And you can't beat a black and white snake. You can wear them with anything :D
Personal experience:
Columbian: perfect temperment
Argentine: Pissy, vocal
Rainbow: Perfect temperment
Dumerill's: Tenative, almost scared
True Columbians Good temperment (for the most part)
good feeders
easiest to breed
Peruivan(true redtail) questionable temperment (can't fully trust them) They hate me (all of em) can be good pet though
good feeders with proper temps(prone to regurge if prey is too large (in the first couple of years or so)
Harder to breed than columbians
Suriname(true red tail) I think the most colourfull and best patterned of the true red tails. They can be skiddish or calm or downright nasty(well known as regurgers if over fed or stressed proper temps and humidity a must.)Large snakes when full grown can be diffucult to breed.
Guyannan's are so close to Surinames it is not funny and they are so close to one another they in my opinion are roughly the same.for all the above.
Now I know people who have kept all kinds of boa's I have seen wild coughts become great calm pets in time, and I have seen captive born that I would swear were wild cought,so you really never know what you are gonna end up with.I will say though the more you interact(handle a boa ) the better the chances it will calm down I have a w.c Suri taht i have been working with for a year now I do not fully trust him(never will) but he is getting better and better, and he has the most awesome tail i have ever seen.
I hope this helps
