I have some problems mesuring my adult BRBs.
They don't stop moving when they're out, they are so curious, big and fast, always climbing everywhere they can.
I'd like to know how long they are. I'd appreciate any tricks that could help me :)
Thank you !
couple of ways might work...
Best effecient way to me is using a white string.. line it up on the snakes spinal cord and follow the snake, keep it always in the middle.. then measure the lenght of the string,,,
I also often just let the snake out of the cage and roam around frelly where he often streches out completly.. and I just pin point where he starts and finishes and then measure..
For smaller snakes or venemous .. I know some ppl take a plexiglass sheet (transparent) and basically squish the snakes .. not to hurt him, but enough to make him not be able to move .. u then draw the snake on the plexi (a line for the spinal chord) .. then measure it with a string .. then measure the rope..
Theres tons of ways to do it ..
I hope one of these works for you...
OHH and u can always just put the measuring tape beside them!
Hope it helps

There's also a program "Snake Measurer" that you can use if you have a digital camara. If you want it, send me a mail hissnherps@iquebec.com and I'll send it to you. Don't mail from a hotmail, I can't send it on that, it's too big. Same thing as the cord but with a pics, it's eaier since they don't move!
I have never actually used this program yet... has anyone else?

:D Jezabel beat me to it.
So far I've just used the "wait til the snake is straight and then run like mad to find the measuring tape" method.

Thanks Corr, I had lost the link from where I took this program!
If you take the pic strait over the snake, it's very acurate. Before, I was using a string that I line it up on the snakes spinal cord, like Dooms explained and, with the snake measurer, I only have under an inches of différence on the lenght (that I think it's because, with the string, the snake move alot)
I just used it and it works great! Very easy.

Let the snakes crawl on an open floor near a wall. They will gravitate to it and hug it like there's no tomorrow!! Especially on a slick floor. Then measure away. Piece of cake!
