Hey, I haven't seen a similar post in a while, and was curious, so I thought why not ask:

What do you feed your snake, rats or mice, and why not the other?

I feed my animals the appropriately sized meal, whatever prey item best suits it. All but two of my animals are too large for mice, so they are feeding on rats.

when our snakes are large enough to eat rats thats what they get. except our kings who prefer mice, but since they're adults and adult mice are the appropriate size for them it's no big deal.

All three of my kids are on mice right now, but I just got a shipment of rats, and the next time I feed (tonight or tomorrow) I will try making the big switch (for my BPs, anyway, the corn is still too small, so I'll switch him later). Rats have more meat on them than mice do, which means more fat and nutrition for the snake, which means a bigger/healthier snake. From now on all my snakes will eat rats as soon as they are big enough to eat rats pinks.

I feed both. Some snakes are too big for mice and some are too small for rats, I just go by size.

Alright, let me reword my question, I said it wrong. What do you feel has more nutritional value, and why: rats or mice.

if there is a rat small enough, illl feed my snakes it. Rats are better from what people have told me, so i changed and feed rats all the time now.

Here is a previous thread that relates to this topic. It has a very interesting download about the nutrient composition of prey items ;)

I think it depends on the size of the animal. I recomend rats for large boas or pythons and mice for smaller snakes.
