I've got a question... how do you make an escape proof mealie dish? Is it possible to make one for the big mealies or do they work best with the 'normal' mealies? I've tried a few ideas but they keep getting out. I'm not normally this slow... I've just been working for 30 days in a row :(

Try using a glass ashtray. They're usually high enough and smooth enough to keep the mealies in and the leo can still see the mealies.

I bought my dish at a kitchen store.. its those tiny porcelain bowls that the chefs on TV use for various sauces etc. The sides are very smooth, and I find that it keeps the mealies in. If you could find a dish with lips that curve slightly inward, that would work well too.

Hope this helps.

I agree with the other posters, get something with curved and smooth sides. Also, I gotta ask, what type of lizard is in your avator? Thanks...

I use those glazed clay pot saucers. They come in all different sizes, and can be found at stores such as Wal-Mart for dirt cheap :D

I use the lids from the wheat germ jar. Works ok until the mealies get bigger.

Thanks for the ideas, everyone... maybe I'll switch back to the small mealies since the big ones keep getting out (can't keep feeding with tweezers forever :))

Adam: my avatar's a blue tailed rock lacerta (holaspis guentheri). He passed away recently but I still like the pic
