I hardly can tell a surinam from a colombian Bc. Where are the differences? At patterns design and tail's color? I believe constrictors are the snakes whith the most differentiated patterns and colours. They are affected easily from the outer enviromental conditions and they develop different characteristics. Therefore, they must be very sensitive snakes. Even their skin is thiner than other snakes. What do you think?

Good one! I have no idea! I have never seen a columbian Bcc (but I know theyre out there). I feel looks are all a function of specific location! I have seen about 3-4 distinct and different "Types" of guyana Bcc, perhaps theyre from different locations in the country! One day maybe with more research specific localities of Bcc can be distinguished on looks rather then location! (just like the retic).

By Columbian, do you mean BCI? If so, I believe the red on their tails isn't nearly as rich, and the pattern is a bit different. Also, BCIs seem to darken up quite a bit and turn brown as adults. At any rate, that's my observation from gazing longingly at herp pics all day.

Not necessarily. I've seen some screaming examples of Colombian BCI that could put many BCC to shame :) However, often these differences do prove to be true.

General Visibal Differences between Colombian BCI and BCC are:

-BCC have 14-22 saddles shaped more <>, while BCI usually have 22+ saddles shaped more like ) (
-BCC tend do be more colourful through body and tail whereas BCI are usually many shades of brown
-BCC tend to be larger, and have a much slower growth rate
-BCC tend to have longer, more slender heads, while BCI posess shorter, broader heads

These are just a few of the commonly found differences, however this is not the rule, as forementioned, I've seen some BCI that had alot more colour and jazz than many BCC, the handsdown best way is to perform a scale count (a daunting task).

However, if you were referring to Colombian BCC, I cannot be of much help, as they are few and far between, I have not had the opportunity to work with any, or see nearly enough

Yes (sorry i didn't mention earlier) i mean about the Bci. Linds, very interesting what you have said about telling the differencies. I use to distinguish the two (Bcc & Bci) from the shape of the pattern in the saddle. I mean the small pattern with light color (brown or baze). In Bcc is more <> like sword, while in Bci is usualy () rounded. Also Bcc have clearer patterns (baze or grey in brown or chocolate) while Bci have many spots, speckels or small stripes along the sides of their bodies. Anyway, with the crossbreeds we have lost any reference point. I am against any crossbreed. Those snakes are a dead-end. You cannot breed them again.

Speckling in both subspecies is the same. BCI don't have more than BCC do, the amount is only relevant to the individual snake. I've seen some BCI that had much less speckling than some BCC, and some BCC that had less speckling than some BCI. As for colour, one of my BCC has the identical saddle colour as my BCI does. I've never noticed any major distinguishing colour differences, except in those BCC that have those deep coffee coloured saddles, though often BCI and BCC have the same saddle colour. My observations.......
