View Full Version : Oh no, it's bath time
My ball usually doesn't like being in the tub, which seems strange to me because it seems that a lot of balls don't mind it. But since she was having a bad shed (and really needed a bath) I took her for a soak in the tub.
Usually, she swims like crazy and does everything possible to get out of the water :( However, this time she just hung out in there and put her face under the water, swam around calmly. I was amazed.
And then when she pooped (or rather excreted some yellow stuff), she did her usual act. She seriously acts like I have her in a vat of acid or something. Maybe she just doesnt like being in 'dirty' water.
She never gets in her water bowl either. Have you guys noticed different balls having different reactions to water? Or is this the norm?
Cheers!
I had to bathe my male bp recently to help him shed his skin and he's not too fond of the tub either. He'll swim and try to get out pretty much right away. He'll hang around if I let him keep his head on the edge of the tub, sometimes he'll stay there like that for 10 minutes or so.
My female isn't so bad, she'll swim a bit more before trying to get out.

most snakes I've worked with dont seem to like water much (or be forced into it anyways) a good way to calm the down is to cover the bucet with a towel and the darkness will calm them down if you have them in the bath tub I dont know what to tell ya then but I guess you could just keep redirecting them intill you get tied of it or the snake does! :)
Rubbermaid Shoe Boxes can be your best friend!!!!
ya that would work well to
Oh, no, it's okay. If she doesnt like the water, so be it. I just want to rinse her off on occaision. I just thought that balls liked the water, but apparently this is a pretty normal reaction.

I have yet to bathe either of my BP's. I guess I should start doing so? Every time I get done handling them, I put them in their water bowls when I'm done. They both seem like they dont really care. They either sit there and look around, drink, or just slither away slowly.

I have found that they don't like the water if they are forced into it. For bathing my snakes (not very often) I put them into a rubbermaid with water and something to hang onto. They usually try to stay out of the water for a while but once they ease into it they seem to like it for a while.

Hehehe... nope! Although they are excellent swimmers, most balls hate water  If you really need to bathe your snake (ie- caked with poop, bad shed, etc), I agree with Mike, rubbermaids are the way to go. If you just want to give your snake a quick rinse, try running him under the shower faucet ;)
