Thinking of adding another snake

I havent been on her awhile. Hope everyone is doing OK in these crazy times.

I've been getting the itch to add another snake to my collection. I have 4 BCIs and 4 BPs. But I'm starting to get interested in other species.

So here goes: Blood Python or Carpet Python (specifically the more yellow one, Jungle? Please correct me if I'm wrong)

What do you guys think? Pros and cons? Which one is easier? Hardier? Just want to know others opinions before I start looking.

Both bring their own uniqueness that makes them difficult to compare beyond them both being pythons.

One is semi arboreal and the other is completely a swampy based ambush predator. Both can be super docile and both can be jerks. The carpet is more active than the blood pythons.

Carpets pythons will likely give you a sign you will be bit while the bloods won't give any signs and then you're bleeding.

I personally prefer bloods and more specifically the smaller of the genus, borneos and sumatrans.

Welcome back, Mike! :) I think you should base your decision on how many snakes you currently have time to handle at a time.

I'm not very familiar with the behavior or husbandry of blood pythons but most jungles will be snappy throughout all stages of their lives (with a few exceptions). That being said, a jungle python bite isn't going to hurt as much as a blood python bite as jungles rarely exceed 6 ft. Jungles are relatively easy to look after. An enclosure of 90x60x120 is all that is required for one. They deal well with high humidity which also makes them a hardy species. So if you don't mind getting bit or you find a jungle that has a good temperament I think it will be an excellent choice for you :) And the end of the day though it's always good to go whichever species you are more interested in ;)

This is great advice!!! Its always easy to act on impulse. But time and resources are two factors that people should always consider with any hobby.

Thanks to the others with their input. I am leaning more into Carpets as I want something more arboreal.

I have 2 carpet pythons, has 3 but sold the youngest one last year. First one was a jungle/IJ cross, and has been as easygoing as a BCI from the start. Second one was the IJ, holy terror as a hatchling, literally struck at anything that moved. Over a period of many months that one gradually changed from defensive to flighty when handled, and with time and growth finally calmed down completely. No problem to handle whatsoever now. The third was a jungle, as easygoing as the first one. Only sold her because I really don't have any interest in breeding carpets.
