digital compared to 35mm

hey, i here everyone talkin about 35mm cameras? I want to get a good one for taking pics of my animals, but i dont want to get the stuff developed. What is a good digital camera that has the same quality?

well I love my digital camera, I just LOVE it! I like it a lot more than the 35mm camera, and if I ever do decide to "develop" a picture, I just buy some photo paper and print it out. But I usually just post my pictures on the web. The camera that I have is an Olympus D-460 Zoom; it's about $300-400? Not sure. Actually it's my moms camera, but she doesn't use it, I use it almost every day. A great thing about this camera is, you dont need to buy film, and you can take up to 400 pictures before you have to delete any (depending on the size of your memory card). Heres a few pictures I took, so you can see the quality of the camera (I don't have a snake yet, otherwise I'd post those pics!)

It actually does take better, more detailed pictures. I just recently discovered what this one button does on the camera. Turns out it takes more close up pictures for real nice detail....it's excellent! Unfortunately I dont have any pictures with this feature, yet. I lost the memory card with the pics (oops!)

Best digital camera for a beginner in my opinion is Canon PowerShot A40. It does amazing things. I have a bunch of pics on this site, check them out and see what you think for your self.

ok, im not really a beginner though, i guess? I mean i take tons of photos, so the majority of you would rather have a digital?

to get the same quality as a good film camera with a good lens you're looking at a 14 megapixal camera. how ever if 99% of the stuff you will take will end up only on the web you'll do fine with a 3 megapixal camera that has a good lens. the lens is important, because if you have a bad lens it won't matter how many megapixals you have.

As for printing out pictures, they are not the same quality as a photograph (they will be good but you can see the difference side by side). Nor do they have the same achival life. a photograph can last many years untreated and not stored in any particular manner. Photoprint (computer print out) will last a few years with out proper treatment and archival methods (ie stored in an album behind plastic) before they start losing colours. Do you need the capabilities of film? Most people don't.

what would the best brand of digital to get. Sony, olympus, canon, etc?? and how much would i be looking at??

Canon Digicam All the way man ! :)
Just LOVE the results.. and you can alway retake a picture if your not satisfied.. :D

Canon all the way...i saw someone mentioned the a40..it is hand down, the best bang for your buck on the camera on the market right now. Other than that, they all have theyre ups and downs..but ultimately price dictates what you end up with. I suggest that you look for a camera that suits the need of the kind of picture taking you do. Do you want mostly close ups, then get a good macro. In low light, outside...lots of zoom? I would find some sites on the net and compare against what your willing to spend.
