Hello everyone new to this forum and hoping someone can ID this snake my wife and I came across while hiking in southern Illinois. It's not the best picture but I wasn't about to get any closer!

Rat Snake. Nonvenomous.

Yup definitely some kind of rat snake. So an intimidating specimen, but completely harmless.
