View Full Version : Tagged in the face
Welp, I was handling my newest white lipped python as I want him to tame down. I was holding him in my hand and his head was sidewise in relation to my face. All of the sudden WHAM on the lip. Vanan was there to witness it and we were both caught off guard. I felt his teeth and even had some drool on my face, but surprisingly no blood. Anyways, snakes never cease to amaze me. When they want to move, boy can they move.
I've been tagged a number of times by snakes, which doesn't bother me as it helps me get over the fear of being bit. However a number of these bites have been "gentle" as to not break skin. I'm throughly surprised my white lip didn't take off my face. When I was tagged by my borneo there was hardly a speck of blood on me.
I guess snakes have a few different types of bites, the defensive "I'm just scaring you" bite, the defensive "You are pissing me off and I'm going to make you pay" bite and the "yummy tummy I'm so hungry" bite.
Amazing amazing creatures. What an obession.
doesnt sound too fun Katt...hope i can avoid that! :)
He was just showing ya who was in charge ;)
I'm happy that he didn't get you too hard! Yikes!!! Yep, snakes can be quite impressive in their movements and especially their surprise speed moves!

All those types of bites do go in relation to the size of snake(teeth) biting you. Years ago I had a 8 foot burm take the glasses off my face. I was walking past a window and the glare caught the glasses. Missed me by a hair.LOL
We've all got to be crazy!

Sounds like you were lucky. Quite often my V.B.Beauties (I know wrong forum, but similar attitudes) will strike with mouths closed, more of a warning than a bite, they give you a good shot when they do it though. My male (prior to me aquiring him) bit the girl in the petstore right in the face the first time we pulled him out. His head went from her hip to her face like lightening. It was like he punched her right in the eye. Her eyelid got split a bit & she had a bit of a shiner after, but she was really lucky considering it was her eye! I still picture it everytime I deal with the *******. The funniest part about it was how she was telling me of their good temperment at the time. I had just finished saying to her that I thought he was going to bite her & she was all "no he wouldn't do that" & then WHAM right in the face. LOL I didn't think it was very funny at the time though as I watched the blood running out of her eye. Just goes to show that it never hurts to exercise some extra caution.

Ouch!
The best part was that it didn't hurt at all. Mostly the shock.
No, this was a young male. I've decided to grow up smaller WLP's intead of going with adults, not only is this less a drain on the wallet, but WC adult females are unlikely to breed. According to Dave Barker, with whom I was emaling with regarding WC WLP's, WC juvies can be raised and bred with the same likelyhood as CBB babies.

Wait till you get tagged by something over 6 feet...you won't want that to happen twice. Forget the blood...it feels like getting your hand slammed in a car door.
I had an 8 foot burm tag me on the palm/back of my hand about 7-8 years ago. It apparently hit a vein in the palm of my hand, so I lost enough blood to fill a shot glass. I cupped my hands, walked briskly to the sink, and dumped the blood out...gross. I also thought my hand was broken because of the pressure...it was numb/tingly for a good 5-10 minutes.

Katt:
Sorry to hear about your little mishap (he he). We had a white lipped python that we purchased from LLL Reptile and after about 5 days she died (weeping). At this time my husband (Lasher) and Triple L are having it out between e-mails and phone calls.
My husband was tagged by his green tree boa. Luckily Lasher had blinked when Phil (snakes name), bit him on the eye lid. He too has passed. Phil was also purchased from Triple L. It seems hear lately that we've gotten sick animals from them. I have 2 beardies that Lasher got for me and they won't grow. They said they are dwarf like. I thought no duh! Sorry for rambling.
Critters
Look at it this way, just another mark of character. The norm for me to hear on Monday is "So, what bit you this weekend". FYI critters, LLL and I have kissed and made up. Critters holds a grudge when provoked....
Anthony, I have been bit by a boa over six feet. Vanan's 8 foot female bit me on the arm and started to chew. It didn't hurt and I didn't have much blood either. Guess I was lucky!!
Sorry to hear about your white lip Critters and Lasher. Good luck on your next one.
Makes me glad it's only my juvenile garter biting me...
Glad you didn't loose an eye, or a patch of skin off your cheek!

oh my god katt! if that happened to me i would have soiled my underwear!! i almost had a heart attack when a 3ft king snake was trying to eat my eyes! i had a 13ft burm, a ball python and an huuuge boa of some sort with a head as big as my hands put together, strike at me yesterday, usually a nice "friendly" snake. but shes turned eeevil!
at feeding time at work i only open the door to the vivs about 2" so i can squeeze theyre food through!(it was a nervous day ok?;)) im really not looking forward to being tagged by one of those guys!
Basically, it'll hurt, they'll be blood, but youwant die, so don't worry 'bout it. It's not like you're going to get bit by a venomous snake so it's all good.
On the large snakes, I'm afraid of being tagged in theface, or bit and constricted.

damm....guess thats why i dont keep them....im sticking with the lizards...
you know.. that is the only reason i have not keep snakes, im actually afraid of getting bit. but ive never had anyone to teach me how to handle one either so, maybe if i was taught i wouldn’t be so nervous handling one.

 I remember when i first got my Jungle x Diamond "Psycho" he was very tiny but i had him out for awhile and he was wrapped around my hand and he got into strike pose and i was laughing and my daughter was laughing to because i kept saying oooo you gona dot my eye Psycho.. and sure enough just as i turned my head he tried.. Ive been bit by burms and few boas.. But the worst was a BP rescue that came in and just hand a real bad attitude and wanted to strike all the time even when you walked passed its cage,, It had one nasty bite, and would make you bleed..:(

I suppose that goes along the lines of Tim telling me that "don't worry Jules, she(5 foot yellow rat snake) has never even tried to bite me." BAM! She's hanging on the side of his hand, releases, I go out the door saying"yup, uh huh, whatever Teej!" My fondness of snakes is devoted to viewing them in their cages as I spray everyone else. Although they are beautiful and amazing and am glad we have them. At least you didn't get it bad Katt! LOL
You have a yellow rat?! So cool!
I have a yellow rat, she went AWOL on me, came back, and then escaped on me again. Darn peeved. They're one of my favourites, next to leucy tx rats and baird's ratsnake.
