Good evening all,

This is my first time attempting anything in this kind of forum. I've done some research but been unable to find what I'm looking for. I am in the Military specifically the U.S. Air Force. Due to regulations that are in place I am not allowed to have a heat lamp running when I am not in my dorm room. I am attempting to find an alternative that does not necessarily include an exposed heating element. I've thought that perhaps a fish tank heater placed in the bottom of the tank under the dirt/sand but i am unsure if that would pass be permitted. Are there any other alternatives that could be used or an argument proving the safety of heating elements?

Note: This enclosure would be for a medium or larger sized snake, juvenile Boa more likely.

Hello! Welcome to the community! You can get UTHs (under tank heating mats) which vary in size and wattage which once attached to a thermostat would work wonderfully for your boa

Thank you for the information! I greatly appreciate it, hopefully my leadership will approve UTHs as a valid alternative. Again, many thanks!

Other than a heat lamp your options are heat mats or a radiant heat panel (RHP). Depending on the ambient temperature of the room the snake would be in wheat mat may not be enough. A RHP is more expensive up front, but definitely worth the investment.

Regardless of which heat source you choose, keep in mind it must be regulated by a thermostat as well.
