Could I get a piece of driftwood that washed up on the shore of a lake and take it home and wash it up good varnish it or stain it and put it into my lizards tank? What kind a varnish or stain could I use that is non-toxic to my lizards. Can you show me some pics. of driftwood that you use in your terrium. Thanks
you dont need to stain it....at least I never have, i normally run them through the dishwasher once with soap and then once with out anything.... then let it dry and its done! and I have never had a problem
if you did want to stain it, use a water based stain and also a water based polyurethane to seal it.
You may want to bake it in the oven for a bit to kill off anything in the wood.

You should be able to use it. You might want to boil it or put it in the oven for a little while. This will kill any bugs or bacteria on it.

Yup, baking is a must-low temp-1hr or so. Same goes for rocks too! The bonus is that you get exactly the piece of wood that you want.:bounce:
