Hi everyone. I new to the forum and a new snake owner. I have gotten a juvenile ball python. I have a bearded dragon also that I have had for 2.5 years. My daughter, 12, has wanted a snake for most of her life and I feel she is finally old enough to properly care for one. I decided I needed to find a forum to ask other snake owner/lovers for some advice.

We got our snake, we think its a boy, 4 days ago. Hes about a foot long, have not measured him yet. He is in a 50 gallon breeder tank with water and 2 hides, plan on adding foliage soon. He has a red zoomed heat bulb. He has been acclimating to his new home well. He got out on me once because I did not realize the lid was not on all the way, fixed that issue. He is pretty active during mid day and evening. My question is how do I get him to eat? I have offered him food 3 times now and he just refuses. Either turns his head or just slithers away. I have kept the room he is in relatively quiet for now so he does not get too stressed out. He was eating frozen/thawed fuzzies at the pet store, it had been 6 days since he had eaten when I got him. Now, add 4 more days and he still has not eaten. Should I be worried or just keep trying? Also, I tried morning on tuesday, afternoon yesterday and just now, this evening. He has absolutely no interest. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Leave him alone to acclimate for at least a week. Don't offer him any food, just make sure that he is left alone and has water and quiet. If you offer food too often that stresses them out more too.

I agree with Veronica. Also, what kind of snake did you get?

On Monday, I decided to go buy a LIVE fuzzie for our little BP. Offered it in the evening and he ignored it at first. Left him alone with it and after about 45 minutes, he ate it. He is a happy snake now! I have not bothered him since he ate, letting him chill.

I just realized I didn't look close enough to see you wrote "ball python" in your first post. I'm so sorry!
