Hi - I am new to the group. Just starting to get into snakes. Always been fascinated by them and we had a reptile rescue/education guy come to my son's birthday party and I fell in love with the snakes he had. Have been doing as much research as I can.

Shortly I plan to get wither a BRB and a Peruvian Long Tail Boa. Trying to decide between the two. Hope to get lots of info here and hopefully as I become more experienced share any help I can provide.

In the meantime we have a Bearded Dragon, Russian Tortoise, and 2 Great Danes.

Thanks!

Dan

Welcome aboard Dan! Those are two awesome snakes you're considering. I really like the BCL. Best wishes with whichever one you choose. Keep us posted and share lots of pics. :)

I've never kept either species, but BRBs can be difficult on some new keepers due to their humidity requirements.

But, since you're experienced with other reptiles you should be fine. Just know they're much less forgiving of husbandry mistakes than many other species.

Thanks for the welcome everyone and the advice! After careful consideration I have decided on the BCL. Next step is building an enclosure!!

BRBs are not good beginner snakes. They have very high humidity requirements (95%+ for the first year), are very sensitive to temperature variations and are not very forgiving of beginner husbandry mistakes. Several of us here have had difficulties with BRBs or have lost them. They are challenging.
