I’ve noticed that all ads for juvenile brooks/Florida kingsnakes show a lot of red coloring, while pictures of adults mostly lack red coloring. Do they lose their red coloring as they age? Or, maybe I’m just seeing bad pictures? Thanks!

A lot of species will lose some of their bright colors as they get older. Some will keep that red more than others, but the short answer is that yes, they do usually lose that red for the most part.

This may sound like a silly question, but I'll ask it anyway out of curiosity. Do they actually lose red or is it that they gain darker colors that overshadow the red? My hypo Brooks hasn't changed color much over the last few years. This has surprised me. His red colors seem basically the same. He has gained a little bit more brown/black.

Thank you for the great answer. I really appreciate it. It’s too bad that they lose most of that red.
