Just out of curiosity, how do you deal with fat or obese snakes? Do you feed the same size prey but lengthen feeding intervals? Or do you keep the same feeding schedule with a smaller prey?

My corn snake was very obese when I got her. She had spaces between all her scales!

To get her to a more normal corn snake weight, I fed her the same size prey, but every two weeks instead of every week, as well as fewer prey. (She is still on that same diet and it's been working fine, so I think she was fed too much too often before.)

I don't know if that was actually the best way to do it, but it appeared to have no ill effects.

You could do both things simultaneously. Reduce the size of the prey and the frequency of feedings. If you're feeding a large rat every 2 weeks try offering a medium rat every 3-4 weeks.

Less food less often, and encouraging more exercise. Perhaps reassessing living space may be worthwhile, but that depends on the specifics of the situation and the snake.

Agree with Angy and Ziggy...... example....xl rats will be much more fatty and not good for an overweight animal so you'd want to go for larges. More enclosure space and "enrichment" (Branches ect.)
