So i recently got an adult female ball python! I had her on a heat emitter. She was receiving heat from top to act as natural heat.

I had a couple people tell me to use a heat pad or heat tape. So i went an bought a nice heat pad online and another thermostat. Well i sandwich the thermostat probe between the pad and the tub bottom.

The problem im having with it tho is the top of the substrate under the hothide is only getting about 82f-84f when i point my thermometer gun at it. Ive been reading the tub floor directly as well and its at 95f

Does this sound right? Will she burrow deeper to get to the tub floor or do i need to do something different??? Thanks guys!

P.s Im very new to using heating pads. I usually use only ceramic heat emitters for all my snakes!

You want to use the reading for the actual surface, not the substrate. So 95 is a high. I would drop it down to 89-90

Will it still be able to warm itself up correctly. If i drop the temps?

If he wants to get warmer he'll burrow down or push the substrate around and out of the way to get closer to the heat.
