So I've never probed a snake before, I'm trying to figure out the sex of my ball python, Zhang (10-11 months old). There is a very good and reputable reptile vet about 55 minutes away from us, but I would have to make an appointment, which costs money, which I'm kind of hard-pressed for at the moment. There is also a breeder an hour away, who I am going to contact and see if he's willing to sex him for me. If he is not, should I spend the money and take Zhang to the vet? Or can I probe him/her myself? I've watched several videos on how to do it, and I am pretty confident that I can do it, but I am very hesitant to, and would like to know other peoples opinions on this...

Well, I contacted the breeder and he is willing to sex Zhang for me.

Perfect! Usually reptile expos or consulting a breeder is best for these things and I am glad you have it covered.

Have the breeder show you how to do it, buy a set of probes, and you won't have to ask anyone else again.

When my remaining 2016 Dominican boas reached one year old I bought a set of probes and sexed them myself. Really easy to tell males from females, just be very gentle so you don't injure the snake.
