Where to put my shelf????

I am building (well my husband is bless him) a four tier viv set up for my corns, I am just wondering where it is best to put the shelf at the hot end or at the cool end I don't know which would be best, would really apprciate all advice. Thanks.. :)

can you not put it in the middle??
i would have thought putting it in the hot end would block heat from going underneath......thats if your using spot lights btw.
id say either if its a heat mat...

Can't you put a shelf all the way across? so the snake may thermoregulate at a comfortable height? just my thought.
