For a while, I have loved fox snakes and wished that I would be able to own one. I currently own three ball pythons, and I have owned corn snakes in the past, so I figured I have enough reptile owning experience to get a one. However, I am unable to find fox snakes for sale anywhere. I have found only one breeder after extensive searching that has sold fox snakes, and currently they are out of stock. Does anyone know why so few people have and sell fox snakes? And does anyone know if there is a place I could get one?

Eastern fox snakes aren't available in the hobby, but westerns occasionally turn up in limited numbers. Apparently just not many people working with them. You can try posting a "wanted" ad on the fauna classified forums. If you do run across a listing for them jump on it, they'll likely sell quickly.

On the other hand, fox snakes are simply another species of rat snake, and there are a few similar looking species that are more commonly available.
