I got a gift cert to amazon.com for my b-day. I want to get a DVD, preferably a timeless comedy that I haven't seen before but will want to watch over and over. An example of one of my favorite comedies: Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.
Any ideas?
I would have to say Donnie Darko....
Dark comedy :D
if you liked Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back, then you would also love, Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy or Dogma. If i had to chose out of those, i would go with Dogma!!!

Donny Darko ALL THE WAY mind you when Youkai says dark they really mean DARK its rather dark n ev0l.
Another hilarious movie - Mr. Deeds (but if you dont like adam sandler comedy I wouldnt sugest it) Anyone else have any idea why EVER character he portrays ALWAYS ends up being the same guy? lol
Rat Race is funny and has a all star cast. Personelly i'm not much for comedies, but i own all 3 of the above and love to watch them :)

I saw dogma and it was great a must see but Idont think I woutd buy it
The nice thing about Donnie Darko is that, for many people, you have to watch it again at least once. You actually have to think a bit about it too. :)

I am a huge kevin smith fan!! Dogma is great but if you are looking for classic comedys with Kevins SMiths great work, then I would go with Clerks first - it kinda sets up the whole series if u have seen Jay and Silent Strike back you will know what I am talking about once you watch Clerks" Then I would get Mall Rats again it all leads up to Jay and silent bob!
Then the next one I would get would be Dogma, its kinda a offshoot of his but is funny as hell!
Then if u want get Chasing Amy, its a great movie but its a more serious comedy!
HOpe that helps, and you really should check these movies out if its just to rent them!

Yep, I already own Dogma and I have seen and loved all the others.
Is Clone High on DVD yet? Then I'd go for that...
"Ohmygod, it's genetically engineered with a zipper!!"

I just love his writing, to bad he is done with those.
He is supposed to be releasing a new movie this yeat, but from the word on the forums is that it going to be a drama....but we will C. I know Jay has retired from the seen they are not going to be doing anymore movies with Jay and Silent Bob and that just sucks!
Oh, if you're wondering....in that picture it is M. manson...he sang a food pyramid song! (he actually guest stared..heheh).
Song here:

Xetox, i hears that Kevin Smith is in the middle of a movie right now, it is supposed to be a Drama/Comedy. Also, Jay is filming a movie right now aswell, i can't remember the name but when it comes to me, i will let you know. I have also heard the bad news about no more Jay and Silent Bob.. But i have faith, they will reunite one day :D
jackie chan - Police story 1 (NOT SUPER COP), and "who am i"
lock stock & 2 smoking barrals was great along with snatch

haha Go Jackie Chan!! Shanghai Noon, I'd say... and someone said Boondock saints , that's a good one too..
Go with the South Park Movie so everytime you get in here you will hear "Blame Canada" in the back of your head
lol , You do know that song is making fun of Americans, right?
Speaking of which, if it's out on DVD yet (I don't know when it comes out) but Bowling for Columbine was good. It's not a complete comedy, but it's a REALLY good documentary with quite a few funny parts. [Anyone who's seen it: Did you have a lot more respect for Marilyn Manson as opposed to Charlton Heston, or was it just me??] Or The Big One!
Ummm... Haha Big Bully is a good classic one.
GHOSTBUSTERS! Yeaaa! HHHHMMmm.... other funny ones.... I can't think of anything else... If I remember, I'll let you know.

Yea I knew that Kevin was making a movie but was going to be a drama/comedy so I was kinda expecting somethign like chasing amy......I heard it was to be released late this year but I may be wrong.
I had no clue that Jay has himself a movie....do have any idea who wrote it?
The New Kevin Smith movie i believe is called "Jersey Girl" It stars, Ben Affleck, Jason Biggs, Liv Tyler, J'Lo, George Carlin and many more.
Jay's movie is called 'Game Night'. its written and directed by Shannon Christian..
"Tagline: Empire Records meets Cruel Intentions"
Shold be pretty good.. hopefully..

Both sound good can't wait to see em!
Gotta love a good writer and Kevin Smith is that! And a movie with Jay in it just has to be good!

Anyone out there that could reccomend some good suspence/thriller type flicks for me? Sorry to ask a question in your post Meg, but i know you wont mind :D

Wow this thread was ages ago. I ended up going with Donnie Darko...weird haven't watched it for the second time yet but I might, and Accidental Spy: crappy movie but EXCELLENT scene of Jacki Chan running nude through a turkish marketplace why performing kung fu stunts on his enemies, all while attempting to shroud "key" areas but not always succeeding! ;)

I think an awesome movie is fight club but you got what you wanted but i dont care i am adding this on anyways
If you are looking for a timeless comedy, definitely look into Blazing Saddles. Mel Brooks' humour has got to be up there in the top three of all time. This movie was done in 1975, before politically correctness, so it is funny as hell, I've probably seen it 100 times and I piss my pants almost every time, oh yeah, and I'm continent, so that might explain it.

There are too many to list, but I have to put "Titanic" way up there. The scene where the boat was going down and that guy jumped off and clunked his head on the propeller was just hilarious.
