So I've had my own ball pythons for about 3 years, never had any problems with either of them! A buddy of mine is moving cross country and decided he didnt want to bring his ball (a year old i believe) along for the ride, so i told him that i would take him! when i got him and his tank 2 days ago, he had i think aspen shavings to line it (im a firm believer of paper towel/newspaper) and last night when i got him out cause his shed looked a bit odd on one side, i noticed his belly had a 2 inch line of what looked like scabs. i have never seen anything like this in my own snakes, so i immediately pulled everything out of his tank and wiped it all down and lined it with newspaper and soaked him in warm water for about an hour while i looked up to see what i could find.. absolutely nothing. the scabs loosened up and peeled off when he was back in his tank and now theres the underlying cuts(?) exposed.. help!

Burns? Looks like what happened to my escapee, my 0.1 Pygmy Python, that I just found.
Looks like burns to me, probably from an unregulated heat source. Did the snake's viv come with a UTH or a heat rock? A UTH must be regulated by a thermostat and heat rocks shouldn't be used at all.

i was thinking they might have been burns but the UTH has a thermostat connected. maybe ill go pick up another one.. might be defective? thanks guys!

At this point I'd be asking my "buddy" if the snake had gotten loose at some point and had gotten burned on a hot pipe, etc. For exemple, the only place I can think that my Pygmy Python could've gotten burned was on the dryer hose coupling...it vents at the bottom, and there are no hot water pipes down low enough for it to have gotten burned and all my bathroom cabinets are sealed up.

all the photos of burns I have saw were with ball pythons.
It's really strange. Looks like ball pythons can't react when there is too hot.
Viperkeeper uses heatrocks from 70th and have no problem bc of it. HEre where he is saying it https://youtu.be/Uf3DJDyOMdk?t=492
But he has venomous snakes.
Looks like ball pythons it's the only snakes who can't react to high temperature. Perhaps it's up to all pythons but I didn't saw burned python different species.
Looks like a burn. If a thermostat was being used, I wonder how the probe was set to measure the temperature. It's also possible for the thermostat to fail and then the device would run "open" and get too hot. This issue has nothing to do with substrate. Sorry to see/hear that this happened.

Totally incorrect. Reptiles do not react to pain in the same way that we do and it can happen to any species. Also, whether viperkeeper uses them or not, heat rocks absolutely suck. I hate to see this kind of device being promoted.
Andy_G, did you open link I gave above ? Why viperkeeper's snakes don't get burned ? Why every burned photo is a ball python ?

Is it your thinkings or there are stupid manufacturers who made normally ON heaters ? It's not only can get burn snakes it can be a reason of house fire. :crazy2:

I have zero reason to watch any of his videos. I don't know why that video would single out ball pythons but I'm telling you that the reality is it's not just ball pythons that this happens to, and that's not just an opinion but a fact. It's seen often with ball pythons because they're one of the most popular snakes to keep amongst beginners who make the mistakes that cause the burns.
In regards to why his snakes don't get burned despite him using heat rocks...why do some people repetitively drive drunk yet some of them never get into an accident? Just because it doesn't cause harm every time it's practiced doesn't mean it's a safe thing to do. Sometimes when people do stupid things they get lucky. I guess it comes down to assessing risks involved. I would also consider it unwise to rely on a single keeper whose popularity is mainly due to the entertainment value of his youtube account over almost everyone else in the industry with experience, but that's your choice. I stick by my opinion about how awful hot rocks are and how dumb I think it is to advocate their use.

Perhaps you are misunderstanding me. I'm saying that if a thermostat fails then it stops controlling the heating device which would cause the heating device to be stuck on full power and run unsafely which most definitely has the risk of causing burns or fires. A perfect example of this...there is a local man who had a separate building for his tortoises and it was burned to the ground killing all animals inside due to thermostat fail, and this man is well respected in our hobby here. Anything can be defective or blow a fuse, even the best of products made by the best manufacturers, which is why it's important to regularly check temps and ensure everything is working properly. It's also one big reason why sometimes it can be hard to get house insurance if you keep reptiles depending on where you live or the company you are looking to get insurance with.
Hope that makes everything more clear. Feel free to PM me if not.

I would also consider it unwise to rely on a single keeper whose popularity is mainly due to the entertainment value of his youtube account He have said his channel not about entertainment but science that's why he don't di live feeding as lots of dumbasses do on youtube. U like his videos and how he talk to his snakes and how say about different species, venoms etc.

I personally think thermostats rule. I don't even know how heat rocks looks like )

I see. Looks like ppl must dubble their thermostats . well as far as I have made heat pad by myself I know it can't heat more than 45C.
BTW Viperkeeper have showed wi-fi thermostat who can alarm over internet.
