Hey all...I have been thinking about buying me another snake. The ONLY thing holding me back from buying a columbian RTB is max size. I realy dont need a 12 foot snake. Other than that, I want one. I have a current stock of 0.2.0 Ball Pythons, 0.1.0 Beardie, and 1.0.0 Leo. The Ball Pythons are easy to care for. They are both VERY heathy and feeding well. WEll anyway...Wat are the drawbacks in this species? My frieds have one each. One's just a little 1 1/2 footer and the other is a 5 1/2 footer. They are realy cool snakes. Well thanks again guys, I'm just looking for some fedback. Should I get one? (PS: Cages areNOT problem, a friend and I custom build them to meet recquired needs.)

Hey Trevor
I myself have a female RTB and i've never had a single problem with her shes a great feeder(never refuses food), shes an awsome snake, i had a little bit of a problem with her sheading at first but that to be expected when its a store bought snake(lol). Now shes on complete sheads shes never aggressive cept for the last time she bit me twice(neck&lips) what can i say she loves to kiss once in a while(Lmao) but ya and they only rarely grow to 12 feet they usually grow to around 8-10' on average and like i said over all there one of the greatest pets in the trade in my eyes anyways hope i was help full look forward to hearing about your choice.

hey, I think they would be fine. The chance of you gettin a 12ft boa is REAL rare, even for a BCC, which get bigger than BCI, or should I say a larger max size. I have only seen one monster boa in my life, which was 60lbs, and i think around 10ft. If you go to photo discussin, and click show pics, she is their. The cage was 4ft long, to give you an idea.

A male columbian boa will stay smaller than a female.
Another option is the Hog Island Boa. They have awesome coloring and stay quite a bit smaller than thier columbian cousins.
Hi!
Max size is 12 feet, but that is soooo rare. If you power fed and had a naturally big snake, you might hit the 11ft mark. With normal feeding, 8ft in normal and even a little big. A 6 or 7 foot male is very typical.
I love these snakes, mine are great feeders, puppy tame, and beautiful!

I hAVE A FEMALE COLUMBIAN RTB SHE IS AROUND 7-8 FT. SHE IS GREAT I GOT HER FROM SOME PEOPLE THAT DID NOT KNOW HOW TO TAKE CARE OF HER. THESE SNAKES ARE AMAZING TO WATCH AND GREAT PATTERNS. I JUST BREED HER TO A SURINAME SO I SHOULD HAVE SOME MORE CRITTERS LATER THIS YEAR. THESE SNAKES ROCK. NICK

Why in the world would you want to cross a Columbian (BCI) with a Suriname (BCC)?
what is the extra number for 0.2.0< the last number the only place I have seen it, is when talking about lizards in the forums and only in this forum?
That may be a dumb question but hey I want to know :)
you took the words right out of my mouth storyva...
the last number is for unsexed animals.

the last number refers to unsexed. male.female.unsexed :)
Yep... 1.2.3 means 1 male, 2 females, 3 unsexed. It's used for lizard because those aren't sexable from hatching (for the most part, anyway)

I'll look at them. But one of the major factors with the Columbians is the price. You can find them top quality around here(PHX AZ) for cheap.
I don't think there has ever been a BCI that has reached the 12' mark. 10 is HUGE and quite rare, 6-8 is more the norm for this species. If the size deters you, have you considered some of the other localities? As forementioned, Hog Isle boas typically stay around 4-6 feet, but their are also many localities of Central American and Mexican boas that are usually around that size as well.

The 4x2 may actually be too big if you get a baby. For a Hog Island or a small male Columbian that would be fine for life. If you end up with a female Columbian you will more than likely need a bigger home for it as an adult. The are some great care sheets at http://www.redtailboa.net and at http://www.redtailboas.com. Clay English of Redtailboas.com is also an awesome source to get either a Columbian or Hog Island Boa

I would say boas are way much easier to keep then bp's ,ball pythons go of feeding for some time.If you think the snake would get to big and you don't want it to get big don't get a boa !They don't grow fast but get big. I would say : snakes are cooler too keep when they are big but some ppl don't want them to get big but others do.IF you don't want your snake to get big ,stick with a smaller size ,like hogg island boas
