Just picked up my first ATB last week at a reptile show. Just trying to determine what size mice I should be feeding him. I recently fed him a pinky which he took readily. Should I move him up to fuzzy's based on his body size? Unsure as his neck seems so thin.

I would move him up to hoppers, but don;t buy too many of them because he will quickly transition up to small mice.

Hopper mice might be a bit too big. Fuzzies should be fine. It’s not to say it can’t eat hopper mice, it’s just more food than a snake at that size needs.

Don't measure their prey size based on the neck or head size of the snake. Try to feed a prey item that's roughly 1-1.5x the width of the snakes body. I like to feed prey that leaves a small bulge afterwards. In your case, I'm inclined to agree with Jim, I think hopper mouse would be a good sized meal for your critter. Fuzzys would be fine too but he'll outgrow them very fast.

I appreciate the replies. Most of my experience with snakes has been with the Rainbow Boa I've had for the past couple of years (and a ball python before it). The super thin neck had me worried about going up in size.

i bought my ATB when he was 8 months old and 90 grams and he was being fed baby mice. I upgraded him to small adult mice. You can upgrade his food size for sure with no issues. His neck would widen to accommodate a larger prey

Plenty large enough for hopper mice.
