View Full Version : my childrens python is eating
To anyone who remembers " my children's python won't eat " my worries are over :), he started looking unwell so thought , will have to try live food, out with the bird trap, caught some little brown house sparrows, ( they are pests in Australia) & Scottie just loves them . He had 2 on 1/3/18 & just had another 1 today, 13/3/18. that is only two feeds since 12/12/17. He looks healthier now, has shed his skin & is reasonably active. When do you think we should try another bird as when we tried him with a thawed small rat he didn't want it , was not even interested in it. Looks like we have a fussy python .

I have read that feeding wild caught prey can increase your chances of parasites or disease so you might want to look into that some. I haven't verified that or anything, just giving a heads up.

I agree with ID and would advise against feeding wild caught prey to your snake. I've also read about the potential for parasites or diseases that could be harmful to captive snakes. Do you have access to live mice, rats, or chicks from a pet store or breeder? If not, now that you know he will eat, I'd just keep at it with your f/t rodents. Some snakes are harder to transition from live to f/t, or switching from mice to rats, but almost all will eat eventually. Sometimes it just takes a few months of tough love.
