View Full Version : Best Heating for a Ball?

I've been using a 150w ceramic heat emitter for Asriel since I got him. It's what I used for the rat snake, but with the wattage and the height of the viv, it's not nearly warm enough for him. The average temp is 70-78 Fahrenheit, and I notice him trying to get as close to the heat lamp as possible. I did recently add the UTH, which has made a big difference, but it doesn't heat the tank itself up. I was wondering what is the best heat source (bulb/emitter) and what wattage? Thanks in advance!

UTH will only create a hotspot. Even in my tubs, heat tapes barely effect the air temperatures. What kind of enclosure do you have the snake in?

First off, what type and size is the enclosure?

Second, a UTH is there only to create a hotspot and is not made to help ambient temps.

Third, and probably most important, are your heat sources regulated by a thermostat by a thermostat? ALL heat sources should be regulated by a thermostat to prevent dangerous heat spikes which can cause serious burns or worse to your snake. If the UTH is not regulated, PLEASE unplug it now.

In order to help more, we'll need to know more about your enclosure

Yes, everything is regulated by thermostat. I'm not sure of the exact size of the viv, but I can tell you now that the floor space is quite small and it has more height to it. I'm looking to upgrade soon. I am also aware that the UTH is only there as a hotspot. (sorry if that came off as rude)
