More Than 6,000 Indian Star Tortoises Seized From Wildlife Traffickers in 2017

So REPTILES Magazine recently posted an article about the Indian star tortoise. You'd think people would start buying more captive bred animals then wild caught, right? For a healthier animal anyways. C.B. Indian star tortoises are not nearly as expensive as they used to be, so I just don't get it. After reading this, it is no surprise how the Burmese star tortoise situation got so bad.

I think they should create a special license that allows qualified breeders to import select quantities of certain threatened and endangered species with the goal of establishing captive breeding populations that are genetically diverse enough to have true sustainability.

If there is a very small but steady supply of animals being transported correctly, humanely and legally, the motivation to do it illegally should be severely cut.

I agree, taking massive numbers like this from the wild only decimates the wild population.
