Is it required to have vents in a melamine cage? I have been looking at several cages on the web and most of them are not vented, but have sliding doors. I am in the process of building a cage and am having difficulty deciding wether to or how to put in vents? Any Ideas would be great. Thanks Jamie/Blueeheeler

on the sides of the tank there should be 3 holes side by side with chicken wire over it so the reptile cant get out. who want the wholes at the top of each tank so crickets(if for a lizard) cant get out. thats how i did mine.
hope it helps (i'll try getting some pics).

if you do to this site below and look very closely at the backround of the cages you see that the wood has wholes in it for ventilation, i would recommend doin this for your snakes.

I would definately reccomend using ventilation with melamine enclosures, if not humidity can be a problem not to mention, good air circulation is a must and if not given can lead to respiratory problems, etc...how would u feel not having any clean air to breath??
What i like to do is get a 3' diameter hole saw, 20 bucks or so, and this attaches to a power drill and u can cut out 3' diameter holes on the sides, two on each, and then buy circular vents, plastic or aluminum, for a few bucks a piece, and they fit right in.
You can also place them strategically, so that they circulate the air properly, something i can help u with if you decide to go this route.
Plus, they look very professional.

Thank you all so much for the advice. I have gone ahead and put a 6x6 sheet of plexi with holes drilled in the cage. My hubby's Idea...Looks Okay but I would have preferred the drain cover Idea too thought about it but did not have a hole saw big enough and I couldn't by it today so I guess I get what I get and go with the flow....Thanks again, Blueeheeler
