Hello everyone!
My name is Kaitlyn. I am 24 from Connecticut. I have 2 pit Bulls and recently added a 3 month old Kenyan Sand Boa to our family named Worm. Worm was at a local pet store and I was informed that no one wanted him. One look and I was in love. He had to come home with me. He’s been here 4 weeks today!
For the most part he is very outgoing and interactive when handled. This being my first snake ever I have no idea what anything means. They gave me colored sand at first and his tail became discolored and rough. I recently swapped the sand in his tank for something more natural. He took very well to it and his tail appears to have its color back but is still rough compared to the rest of him.
He is in a 20 gallon tank with a heating pad and a lamp above and his spongebob house which he loves. (Alaskan bull worm reference).
Here are a list of my concerns/questions. I have been told a variety of things but I’m turning to you guys in hopes to learn!
1. He spends most time in his house. Not under the sand. His house is on the hot side of the tank. Temps seems okay. We use heat meter that you point into the tank and it gives you the temp.
2. Water. I have a ceramic dish. Do I fill it? Do I leave it in there always?
3. For the past 3 weeks he has eaten thawed mice every Sunday. Today (week 4) he struck the mean but abandoned it. Refuses to eat.
