Newbie to colubrids!

Hey everyone! Currently I own and am only familiar with ball pythons but I'm hoping to get a russian rat snake next year! So I'm trying to learn as much about them as I can and colubrids in general :)

If anyone by chance has had experience with them or knows any good resources I can look into, I wouldn't mind being pointed in the right direction :P

Well, not sure how you keep your BPs, most keep them in tubs. This is not something your russian rat would appreciate one bit. Large enclosure, lots of space both horizontal and vertical. Good lighting as well, as it's diurnal and active, love to climb.

I keep my ball python in a 4x2 ft pvc cage from Animal Plastics. I know I'd like to get a 6x4 (or 6x5) for my russian ratsnake when it's an adult, but for a hatchling since they are so small I'm trying to figure out what size enclosure to start with since they seem to be a literal noodle when they're babies lol

well yes, they're small but grow fast :) ugly as hell when they are small, but absolutely stunning as adults. It's quite unusual because typically baby snakes are very finely decorated/colored and turn more bland as adults.

I don't keep them, though they don't need too much besides large space and good lighting. Like all things Russian, it just keeps going and then some.
