I got a bunch of tentacle snakes about 6 weeks ago and it seems that one of them has an odd lump on its side. It doesn't look anything like the blisters that I've seen be a problem with these guys. It also is too geometric to look like an abcess( although that is a possibility that I'm just looking at a weird angle) . I think it's unlikely to be a sign of eggbinding as again it looks to be the wrong shape. Im considering the possibilities that it is either a parasite or an injury or deformity on the snake ( the snake is otherwise quite healthy). I've been monitoring this snake for some time and it doesn't appear to have changed. Can anybody give me some input on what it is I am seeing and how I should respond?

I'd guess it to be some kind of internal parasite. Vet intervention would be a good idea. Have seen similar in garters.

I'd probably separate it from the others (not sure if that's bad for them I've always seen them in groups at the zoo, first community snake?). I'd say it looks like a tick or something but they don't go underwater as far as I know.

Yeah, I'm thinking of doing that right now. Can I dose prazipro into the water without harming them? That has been my go to strategy for other aquatic life forms with parasites

I do not think it will harm your snakes, but I don't know how effective it will be. Prazipro is normally used for commonly kept aquarium pets, and tentacled snakes don't fall upon that list. I am sure it will work, but I cannot guarantee this. I would first check in with a veterinarian, and find his/her opinion.

Hard enough to find a vet that knows what a corn snake is, let alone finding one that will know what the heck to do with one of the more rare species kept in captivity. If I were you I'd call the zoo and ask to talk to someone for advice. I know the Cleveland Zoo had/has them.

I've talked on the phone with several vets and I have to agree. I know that many people think that 99% of the time a visit to the vet will end up being expensive and harmful to the animal if it is not a commonly kept species. All the same I will likely schedule an appointment to pick up whatever medicines are recommended by the institutions that I have emailed. In the mean time I really need to know whether I can use prazipro on these guys. The snake still seems to be acting healthy but I'd like to know so I can act to prevent its condition from worsening. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks,

I would try to talk to the company that makes prazipro, pretty sure it's okay but it would be nice to check. I have heard some people using it on amphibians without any problems and tentacled snakes are a bit less sensitive then that. I would think it is okay, but I have never used prazipro on a tentacled snake before. The best advice I can give you is to try to contact the company.
