Building a 48x30x16 cage out of 3/8 PVC for a cage for a 6ft retic, temporaily. Save the soap box speech about size and risk. I kinda of rescued it from a friend who had no idea what they were doing, surprisingly, she is healthy but the cage is hot garbage. I had a 36x18 tote I made into a make shift enclosure for a week. This weekend I'm building her new house till I save up the money to build her permanent home after the first of the year, maybe put a redtail in this one I'm building later. Simple question, I have an under tank stick on heat mat, will that transfer adequate heat through 3/8 pvc or should I get a heat lamp or do both? Heat lamp would be a hole cut in top and wire mesh for it to sit on. I will install a RHP (Radiant Heat Panel) later this month but I need get this girl set up quick fast and in a hurry. Thanks never build my own enclosure.

I'd use an rhp or che. A uth won't do a thing for ambient heat. How well it would heat through I'm not sure. But I'd recommend going with the basking source. If you drill a small hole in the back and run your wiring to a box mounted on the inside you won't have to cut holes.
