Need a general husbandry book on kingsnakes. Which books are a must have? Really don't want a pet store book with lots of pretty pictures . Need one that talks about feeding, brumation, diseases etc...

Welcome to sSNAKESs! I don't have any books yet and rely on web searches and knowledge from our forum members. I'll be interested to see which books anyone recommends.

Most books are old... husbandry advances quite fast, even for species that have been kept in captivity for a long time. Research is ever evolving as well as wild life observation technology.

It's better to information for actual keepers that are up to date about latest advances then from a book.

Same for caresheets on the internet which are for a large part copy-paste & reword from a few sources and not kept up to date.

Especially if you are looking beyond basic care (=xyz bedding, water bowl, 2 hides, a lamp on a stat for x temp, and drop in a mouse every once in a while), it can be a real challenge to find good information.

Some of the specifics on here might be a bit old school but if you haven't already combed through here, I recon he knows a thing or two about kingsnakes Applegate Reptiles Home Page (http://www.applegatereptiles.com/)

Thamnks SD59 for the warm welcome . TRD I totally understand how easily info goes out of date . That is why I was so worried about wasting money on lots of books picked off amazon that were not worthy . Pet snake 78 thanks that apple gate website perfect and they have two books : one online and the other I can order .
