Heads up, Long story! A few months ago I decided I had gone too far, I simply had too many snakes at 14 (excl rescues). Even though I used to keep 40+ adults, that was just a very different time of life for me. It took me so much time to clean/care for them the way I really wanted, it felt like a chore and not a fun hobby, hadnt held one for fun in ages. So I sold off my recovered rescues and stopped taking in new ones. And also decided to part with my dwarf boas since I found someone who truly loved them as much as I do, maybe even more.(And I get spammed with updates).. And was down to 9 snakes, 4 Retics, 2 burms, 2 boas and a hognose. Still a bit much, as I promised myself I'd keep it at 8 tops. I coulndt decide what to sell because I really did love every single snake I had. Although.. One of my retics, Misa the Selayer. Was a lunatic at best, only a bit bity on her best days. But rolling around like a toothy tumbleweed on her worst, always requiring all hands on deck of atleast 2 people. So I was looking into rehoming her, as she takes about as much time to care for as the other 8 did together. Not only that but she is quite heavy and hard to deal with, and I was kind of at a loss what to do with her during the later stages of pregnancy as she requires 2 experienced handlers. My other giants are heavy too but have the kind of disposition that I can guide and someone else can lift, without expected major issues even if they're not thát experienced.. Her finding a different home would liberate me more than it gave me heartache, so I went searching. Nobody seemed qualified, she has spooked a lot of ppl too haha. One guy almost cried... I got one offer from a breeder I befriended, bc he could use her as a breeder. But he wasn't in the market for buying yet until he had sold more of his offspring from previous years, but I was free to trade for something. Since I had been looking for a new home for a while and this seemed like a great one that could deal with her (He has tons of adult retics / anacondas / afrocks etc). I was considering a trade, if anything I would have an easier snake to deal with. And not necessarily a permanent addition. But then the following was taking place. Without going into too much detail, the female burm I had bought earlier had a ton of issues. A) It was a male, B) it had mites. C) it had been weaned on live asfs which I have 0 access to. Long story short, (S)he is back to the breeder, I would have gotten him to eat eventually. But I didn't want 2 males and the fun had kinda died... So.. Looking through the breeders selling list, he was selling a Gorgeous female burm. Same age as my boy, good disposition. And from a very small breeding line, which is fun because my male is on the smaller end of "normal" too. Anyway, I traded Misa for this "lill" lady. She's a Pearl, with perhaps some hidden genes I may or may not prove out at some point. Either way im quite pleased with how everything has worked out. For now this girl is number 8 so might just consider her a permanent resident, as she's my only female burm now.

She is still nameless as of now, but I'll think of something!

Flash photo inside, sorry no resizing I am still without acces to a pc. I hope this works, first time using imgur!

Put the tub outside in the sunshine for a better look, I almost needed sunglasses. She is very bright!

Bit of a closeup of her head, she has cute white speckles!

She's definitely not a baby, she's an estimated 8,5ft but I didnt want to bother her anymore so didn't measure or stretch her out. She had a loong trip already.

Thanks for reading / looking.

At 26 snakes, I can fathom, somewhat, what caring for 40 snakes most be like, and I don't even have any giants!

Anyway, that is one beautiful snake, Tsu, congratulations!! :D

Thanks! I do kinda miss Misa, but not being struck at repeatedly walking through my snakeroom was nice for a change.

She's a beautiful burm mate

Thanks Dave, I know you really like the Sapturais but maybe just like me you'll be happy to know she'll be bred next season. :) Just not by me ( I woulndt have had time or space atm). Despite her character her genes were really worth passing on, and I'm glad they are.

Said it before but on my computer wow, you might want to see a doctor to have your eyes checked for possible damage. Looking into the sun is dangerous ;)

We named this girl Luna!

And her first time with us was a horror story!! Poor girl had a serious pneumonia (and mites bah) and was very sick no more than 2 days later. She had probably traveled in the cold and draft for those 10 hours. She did not want to eat, barely had any intrest in anything at all. The seller offered to take her back and give me a different snake, I decided I did not want to put her through traveling back all that way as sick as she was. She had so much mucus in her mouth and at some point was not able to get it out, traveling back in a car for hours and hours didn't seem like a plan to me. Her gums were swollen en wet, she was drooling a lot. She shed on her own and seemed a little better for a bit, but crashed back down a few days later. I made a vet appointment asap obviously. She coulnd't close her mouth at all anymore all the day we went.

The vet gave her a shot and a follow up shot to take home. At some point after the 2 shots she started to get less responsive, it was really difficult for her to breathe. The meds weren't doing much. It seemed to make her worse, At some point I thought she was dead because she was completely unresponsive and pretty limp when I picked her up. Rinsed out her mouth and put cut onions in her tank, this seemed to help getting the slime out. Also steamed her a few times, which isn't really something I had done before but it seemed to help. She went into shed again but I had to help getting 80% off, she only got it up to her neck and gave up. It wasn't stuck perse she just had no willpower to do anything about it.

Change of meds and a few more vet visits en shots later she seemed to be a bit better. Atleast responding to touch a bit more.

She looked amazing and shiny again, and she could close her mouth now so there was definetly progress. Still beathing very raspy, but atleast catching some air. Still 0 response from her until I actually grabbed her.

About 2 weeks ago she started to get a little more active, actually exploring her enclosure instead of camping on the hottest spot she could find (I offered as hot as was still safe, it seemed to help) She by now has lost about half a kilo ever since I had started monitoring her weight and you could see it, especially in her back half. Nothing too much, it's 'only' been 4 months but it was taking a toll on her. But her being more active made me hopefull.

I have been offering her a variety of foods all this time, each time one of my snakes had to eat she was offered it first. First few weeks when she was still really sick she didnt even respond, later she looked up but then put her head back down. Once she started to move about a bit, she seemed a little interested but just as quickly lost the interest.

Then one day i sprayed her enclosure and accidentally sprayed her in the face, she looked up at me and hissed LOUDLY. I was really excited, this was the most responsive she had been since day 1!!! Then a little while later I saw her actually smelling around as I was feeding other snakes. This was a huge progress as she hadnt been smelling anything since I've had her. Her tongue didn't even come out of her mouth. We went for her last check up, and the vet had gave her a clean bill of health. She felt a lot stronger too.. Suddenly seemed to act more and more like a normal snake in a record time. (From 0 to 80% in 5 days or so)

Since it was feeding time for my smaller snakes the next day after the hissing I Figured I'd offer the food to her again. She flew up out of her hidebox and got up into it, I was really pleasantly surprised. As maybe 2 weeks ago she barely responded to any presence. She shoved around the small rat I had in the tongs (Which was actually meant for my SD retic) but it didn't seem to 'click' that she should maybe eat it.. I decided not to give up as this was the most interest she had shown in anything ever. So i decided to heat it up a good bunch, put it in a bag and the bag in hot water, the bag was apparently leaky and the rest got a little cooked on the outside. Wanted to film how much better she was responding to food so decided to grab my phone to do so.. Then this happened...

9Xp6ItTy57c

I THOUGHT MY HEAD WAS GOING TO EXPLODE. I was WITHOUT words, she Did not want anything to do with food or anything else, for months, and suddenly there was this ferocious burm wanting it now. I was so excited! She ate it very rapidly and I started defrosting a new meal for my SD... She seemed to beg for more though, why not try? Heated it up again.. Managed to keep it dry this time... Interest but no taking again... So i dipped it in scalding water, poaching it basically.. Absolutely gross and it smelled up the entire room. But again, WHAM no hesitation. It popped but she still ate it with gusta.https://i.imgur.com/gfObg1y.png

Decided to defrost 2 more (one for SD one for her) as 3 of these rats would make an normal small-ish meal for her. Didn't want to give her a too big meal right away. And again she took it no issues as long as it was slightly.. boiled.. (my attic smelled like guts, ew)

So after having had a sick pet brick for months that did not even look at me, she now immediatly perks up as soon as I walk by, shoving her face against the glass and follows me around the room. She hisses at me when I move her out of the way to give her fresh water. And seems to be constantly looking for food. I'll try a Large rat soon, and hope she keeps this trend going. Once she's established maybe she'll want a rabbit? who knows! Fingers crossed!

Nice to see you again mate! She's doing great, doesn't really like rabbits yet but eats 2 (heated) jumbo rats without issues and would probably take more haha. So I'm happy with it. She has regained most of the weight, and has shed fully twice for me since she started eating again. Actually grew a bit length wise. No issues left for her. It's nice to have 0 issues amongst all my snakes, really woulnd't know where to get the time for it all otherwise haha.

Currently don't have the energy to do that, I did post one not too long ago because all my old photobucket pictures had gone missing :P Best I can do for now! It's already quite a strain to care for all of them haha. Will try to update a bit in this topic again soon: http://www.ssnakess.com/forums/general-discussion/116106-tsubaki-s-snakes-update.html
