View Full Version : Tank size for Ball python
Alright.. it's been a while since I've owned a ball python, but I'm thinking about putting a deposit on a female pied hatchling and I can't for the life of me remember what size tank she's going to need. I took on a 40 gallon long tank from my sister that needs a bit of fixing up (cracks in the bottom).. Is that going to be big enough/too big?

Hatchling? I'd say too big unless you put a lit of "furniture" in the enclosure--i.e. plants, hides, water bowls, etc.--or it's the only enclosure you have; but again, make it busy inside!
Otherwise, go smaller for now.

I just transferred my baby (7 months old now) from a 10 gallon aquarium into a 36x18x18 exo-terra. 2 hides, some fake plants, some other "stuff"... she is handling it well after a few days. Good luck!
Unfortunately the 40 gallon is all I have for now, but I could probably get her something smaller in the meantime. The big tank has some cracks on the floor of the tank that I would need to fix, so I may try to find something else anyway. What's the minimum size for an adult female?

40 gallon would be fine for an adult.

Add enough clutter, size doesn't matter, making the secretive snake feel safe does.
