Hello,

I am currently in Southwest Michigan (Stevensville) and another person at the resort came up with a snake that was just by the door of her cabin. Unfortunately, she was frightened and killed it, but, if anyone could please help id this baby snake for us, it would be much appreciated.

Looks like an eastern hognose.

Harmless eastern hognose. These things don't even bite out of self defence. What a shame.

Thank you both very much for responding. I agree, it is a shame that she killed it, rather than calling someone to remove it.

Yes, a shame...spastic, uninformed individuals lashing out without the knowledge of their surroundings/environment and what what lurks outside their homes.

My neighbors did this a few months ago, killed a harmless black snake (racer) w/o thinking first or coming to get me. I know they have kids, but "stop", "think", "stay calm" and assess the situation before launching nukes at the wildlife. :unhappy:
