Ok, so I've been lusting after this Tanimbar python for a few weeks and it seems I can't possibly live without him. Today I picked up a used terrarium that is definitely larger than I imagined (no idea why, as the dimensions were specified). It is a beautiful 36"L x 18"W x 24"H. Is this too large for a young scrub to feel safe? Not sure of his age exactly, but will find out. He's probably about 18 inches long I'd say. If I provide him with plenty of hides and climbing space, will he be happy in an enclosure this large from the start?

No it'll be fine. Just make sure there is loads of clutter and branches at various levels for perching.

Make sure any prey item is nice and warm before ordering and I'm sure it'll be fine. Scrubs aren't shy about food!

Oh and pictures. Need pictures...

I snapped a cheat photo of him yesterday when I went in to make sure no one nabbed him ;) Hoping to actually take a day off this weekend to set up the new viv. He's like a baby dragon! I love him.

They are incredible snakes. They stress easily - can be very nervous - and are viv defensive but calm deliberate actions and handling and you'll be fine.

Good to have a fellow scrub owner - they're like nothing else you can own this side of hots...

YAY, he's officially on hold for me while I finish setting up his viv. Will probably bring him home Tuesday. What method do you use to heat your scrubs' vivs? I don't particularly want to get a dome light for him, though a CHE works well to keep my Dumeril's temps up. Is there something else you prefer? And humidity levels should stay in the 70-80% range I imagine? Not sure why my "nervous mom" mode is kicking in, since I'm sure his temps and humidity are not on point in the crappy pet store. THANK YOU!!!

I use CHE's or visible light heat bulbs in all my vivs. They are arboreal so a mat wouldn't really work. We have the nice bulb cages over here though which makes using CHE's a cinch though. Aim for a basking spot 30c+.

I know I should have waited, as a few items for his enclosure will arrive tomorrow, but I just couldn't. I picked him up today and I am like a 6 year old at Christmas!!! He is BEAUTIFUL and terrifying. He's been here for all of 2 hours and he has explored every inch of his enclosure and already eaten. I know moms aren't supposed to have favorites, but :Wow:. He is incredible.

Nice. At least Nauta stay small. I know a chap with a 15' + scrub and that is terrifying and kinghornii can get to 18'+ :).

Yeah my scrubs are up there as my favourites too (except Auntie Rachel of course :) )
