Been looking for one of these for a while - one of the few snakes found in the UK. Natrix natrix - the grass snake.

This is actually a German locality (Black Forest) but native UK ones are very difficult to find as they are not allowed to be caught.

Photo of one of the babies and one of the parents. Will pick up from the big expo next month. Chuffed to bits to find one.

One of the first snakes I remember learning/reading about as a kid when first got into reptiles.

Want one :) Wonder how easy the care is considering its a UK native species, I'm intrigued.

Care is easy enough - just don't keep them too warm and make sure you have somewhere to allow them to brumate a few months over winter.

They're surprisingly hard to find in the captive market but not expensive - I paid £40 for mine.

Yea they are not exotic/interesting enough and their diet may be less comfortable for the masses. What do you intend to feed it?

I really love the species though, used to see them quite a lot and at one point collected about 20 or so from a single stream in France (literally over the distance of about 200 meters, there were so many of them at that place).

What a stunning snake and oh my god that baby is so tiny. What do they eat?

The babies are currently feeding on pieces of trout and pinkies. Its precisely because they are not massively popular that I like them too :). My kind of snake - been looking for one for a few months.

Yea they are great, aren't they almost exclusively amphibian eaters? I never looked in their captive care though, so I may be off and referencing their natural diet :)

Natural diet is predominantly amphibians but they transition in captivity to rodents.
