Male ball python about 7 years old. He has been recently falling off a box in his enclosure. Its only about 10 inches high so I don't think hes getting hurt but after he falls he just sits there and doesn't move even if hes upside down and twisted uncomfortably. I just think its weird that he doesn't even try to right himself. I end up reaching in his cage and flip him back over then he seems fine and moves around later fine. His cage usually sits at mid 80's and the box is right under a heat light so hes not cold. Any reason to worry?

A lot of snakes react like that, I imagine it could be some sort of "stunned" moment when they fall. Sometimes they'll right themselves, sometimes they won't.

Has the box always been in there? For what reason has he started falling off it and can this be prevented. It's usual for a snake to fall off things so perhaps this aspect needs exploring further also.

I can certainly just take box out, and I will. Its in there as a hide and something for him to sit on to bask directly under heat light. Its been in there for a couple months now but just lately its been colder in the house at night so he's going on top of it. I think he's slipping off of it from just his weight tipping the lighter cardboard box. I think ill just find something heavier as a hide so he can't dump it over. I was just curious about his lack of a reaction after falling off.

Ok makes sense. Was just looking to see whether the falling off the box and the reaction afterward were linked in any way.
Is it a particular morph or a wild type?

He's just a normal type. Not sure about his background before i got him years back as a baby.
